I waited until Millie was asleep before I brought it up.
Nixx was at the kitchen table with his laptop open while Benny stood at the sink rinsing the bowls we had used for ice cream. I had spent most of dinner thinking about Mrs. Taylor sitting in my office and telling me she couldn’t turn off a phone number her daughter might never use again.
I sat across from Nixx.
“I need to ask you guys something.”
Benny shut off the water.
Nixx looked up immediately. “Okay.”
“It’s about Kinsley.”
Neither man reacted beyond giving me their attention.
That helped.
“Hell’s Fire has been ripped apart. Havoc is missing. Razor is missing. Police have a mountain of s**t to go through now, and eventually everybody is going to move on to whatever comes next.”
“The investigation isn’t over,” Nixx
