I had come in looking for my charger, already thinking about the client I needed to confirm for tomorrow, when I noticed the sheet of white paper shoved between Benny’s keys and one of Nixx’s gloves. Purple marker covered most of the page. Four people stood in front of a crooked house, and Rabbit sat beside Millie looking roughly three times his actual size.
It was the same group she had drawn months ago, back when Benny had barely been home from the hospital and everything around us still felt temporary. That picture had hit me because she had put Nixx and Benny beside us before any of us really understood what we were becoming.
