I stayed at the hospital most of the day.
Mira slept on and off. I sat in the chair next to her and checked my phone and thought about the night ahead. Harlow had been discharged earlier and Asher had taken her back to the compound. My parents had come by, stayed for a while, and left when they saw Mira was resting comfortably.
Around five I called Cassidy.
She answered on the second ring. "Ridge."
"I need you at the hospital. Mira's room. I have to leave for a few hours tonight and I don't want her alone."
"I've been waiting for you to call," she said. "I'm on my way."
She showed up not long after. Came in quietly. Looked at Mira sleeping. Then at me. Didn't ask any questions. Just pulled the second chair over and sat down and that was enough.
I leaned down and kissed Mira
