I didn't sleep.
Lay in bed for a few hours staring at the ceiling while Mira slept next to me. She'd tried to talk when we came back inside. I'd told her not yet. She didn't push. Just got ready for bed and lay down and eventually went to sleep.
I stayed awake.
At six I got up. Got dressed. Went to the kitchen and made coffee and stood there drinking it.
At seven I sent a text to the group chat.
Church in thirty.
By seven thirty the room was full.
I looked around the table. Some of them already knew. Asher. Knox. The brothers who'd been in the lot with me when I read the letter. They sat with their faces set, not talking.
The others were still figuring it out. Reading the room. Waiting.
