(Cassidy) I woke up before Dane the next morning and stayed where I was for a few minutes. The room was quiet except for the sound of his breathing beside me. Sunlight came through the curtains and stretched across the floor. For once I didn't feel the urge to get up and put distance between us before the day started. The last few days had been strange in the best and worst ways. Dane was doing things I had asked him to do years ago. The house was real. The conversations were finally happening. That should've made everything easier. Instead it made me cautious. I'd wanted these things for so long that part of me didn't know what to do now that they were actually happening. Hope was a dangerous thing when you'd spent years learning how to live without it. Hope made you vulnerable. Hope
