Ridge's usual time. He didn't come. I knew he wouldn't. Harlow had told me. But I still caught myself watching for him anyway. By seven, the bar was full. Friday night crowd. Louder than usual. More people. More orders. I stayed busy, but part of my mind was somewhere else. Thinking about Ridge. Wondering where he was. What he was doing. Wondering if he was thinking about me too. Around eight, Dane walked in. He sat at the bar and ordered a beer. When I brought it to him, he gave me a look. "Ridge asked me to keep an eye on things tonight," he said. "I'm fine." "I know. But he wanted to make sure." Dane took a drink. "He doesn't like being away when you're working." "Why not?" "Because he's possessive. And because he doesn't trust other guys not to hit on you when he's not here.
