(Tyler) I waited in the trees. That was Rook's instruction and for once I followed it without arguing. Stay back. Stay out of sight. Don't come forward until I bring her to you. The crew doesn't see you. That's the deal. So I waited. I'd borrowed Rook's second vehicle. Parked it deep in the logging road where nobody would see it. Sat in the driver's seat in the dark and listened to the woods and waited for Rook to come back with Mirabelle. It took less than twenty minutes. I heard them before I saw them. Not just footsteps.
