The day of the home study came sooner than I expected. I had been awake since early this morning, walking through the house and checking everything. Melissa had already told us she wanted to see how we normally lived. Knowing that didn't stop me from making sure everything was ready.
Dane found me in the bedroom we'd set aside for a child. I was standing in the middle of it, trying to decide whether we'd forgotten something. There wasn't much in there yet because we wanted whoever came home with us to have a room that felt like theirs. Dane walked in and looked around.
"What do you think?"
"About what?"
"The room."
Dane looked around.
"I think it's a room."
I stared at him.
"Thank you. Very helpful."
"What do you want me to say?"
"I don't know. Tell me if we're missing
