(Ridge) I woke up before she did. Not by much. The room was still dark and the hospital was quiet and Mira was asleep against my side with her hand on my chest the same way it had been when we fell asleep. I lay there for a few minutes and didn't move. Just looked at the ceiling and listened to her breathe. She was okay. That was the thing I kept coming back to every time my mind tried to go somewhere else. She was here. She was breathing. She was carrying my child and she was alive and in this bed and okay.
