(Dane) The ride back to the compound should've been quiet. Instead I spent most of it thinking about a coffee machine. Not because I cared where the damn thing went. Because the look on Cassidy's face when I pointed out the corner in the kitchen had stayed with me the entire ride home. That house was already getting into my head. So was she. Neither of those things had happened as slowly as I would've expected. The second I pulled into the compound, my phone rang. I parked the bike and glanced at the screen. Knox. That wasn't unusual. The timing was. I answered before Cassidy had even climbed off the bike. "What?" "VP." The tone of his voice told me enough. Something happened. I stood up straighter immediately. "What is it?" There was noise in the background. Voices. Music.
