Allie The fan’s phone remained halfway out of her pocket. For one terrible second, nobody moved. Chase stood close enough that I could still feel the warmth of his hand at my waist. The stuffed polar bear sat on the railing beside us, its blue scarf twisted from being crushed between our bodies. The lights from the winter market glowed behind the young woman, making her wide eyes look even brighter. “Oh my God,” she repeated. “It really is you.” My arms dropped completely from Chase’s neck. Panic rushed through me so quickly that the peaceful evening disappeared. I imagined the photograph before she even took it. Chase and Allie caught kissing. Allie moves on days after rejecting Logan. Was the public proposal only a publicity stunt? Every headline formed inside my mind at once.
