Javed’s thumb hovered over the screen, his heart hammering a frantic rhythm against his ribs. He didn’t need to ask who the text was from. There was only one person in this massive, silent house who would command him with such quiet, absolute authority.
Come to my office. Now.
Javed swallowed hard, his throat dry. He looked down at his grey sleep shorts and soft white t-shirt. He should change. He should put on something more formal, something that didn’t make him feel so exposed. But the sheer urgency pooling in his stomach wouldn't let him wait.
Barefoot, he slipped out of his bedroom and into the dimly lit hallway.
The mansion was completely dark, save for the pale moonlight filtering through the high windows. Every creak of the floorboards sounded like a gunshot to Javed's hyper-alert senses. He made his way down the grand staircase, his hand sliding along the cold iron railing.
At the end of the corridor, a thin sliver of warm, amber light spilled from beneath the heavy oak door of Martin's study.
Javed reached the door and hesitated. His hand hovered over the brass handle. If he opened this door, there would be no turning back. The boundaries they had spent all day pretending to respect would be shattered.
He took a deep breath, gripped the handle, and pushed the door open.
The study was bathed in shadows, illuminated only by a single desk lamp and the soft glow of the fireplace crackling in the corner. The scent of rich leather, expensive whiskey, and Martin's distinct sandalwood cologne was intoxicatingly thick.
Martin was standing by the glass doors, looking out over the dark, restless lake. He had discarded his suit jacket. His white dress shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing the strong, hair-dusted skin of his wrists. In his hand, he held a tumbler of amber liquid, the ice clinking softly as he swirled it.
He didn't turn around immediately when the door clicked shut.
"Close it," Martin commanded, his voice a low, rough growl that sent a shiver straight down Javed’s spine.
Javed did as he was told, softly clicking the heavy door into its frame. "Martin? Is everything okay? Did something happen with the donor list?"
Martin finally turned. His dark eyes were intense, burning with a restless, chaotic energy that Javed had never seen in him before. He set his glass down on the edge of the desk with a sharp clack.
"You broke rule number three, Javed," Martin said, his voice dangerously quiet as he began to walk toward him.
Javed’s breath hitched. He stayed rooted to the spot, his back pressed against the hard wood of the closed door. "I didn't flirt with you. I was working. We were just organizing files."
"You looked at me," Martin countered, stopping just a foot away. The sheer heat radiating off his body was overwhelming. "You looked at me with those wide, dark eyes. You let me touch your hand. And when I pulled away, you stared at my mouth like you wanted to devour me."
"You touched me first!" Javed protested, his chest heaving as his pulse skyrocketed. "You're the one who didn't let go!"
"Because I am losing my mind," Martin snarled, the sudden raw admission ripping through the quiet room like a physical blow. He stepped closer, completely crowding Javed against the door. "For twenty years, I have been in control. I built a life on discipline, on doing exactly what was expected of me. And now, my son's best friend walks into my house, looking like a dream I’m not allowed to have, and my entire world is tilting on its axis."
Javed's heart was beating so hard he was sure Martin could feel the vibrations. He looked up into the older man's face, seeing the torment, the raw desire, and the terrifying possessiveness warring in his dark eyes.
"Then stop fighting it," Javed whispered, bold and reckless, his fingers curling into the fabric of his sleep shorts. "If you want me, Martin... stop pretending you don't."
A low, guttural sound escaped Martin’s throat.
The last thread of Martin's legendary control snapped.
He lunged forward, his large hands framing Javed’s face, his fingers burying deep into Javed’s dark hair. Martin tilted his head up and brought his mouth down in a kiss that was nothing short of a possession.
Javed let out a soft gasp against Martin’s lips, a sound that was instantly swallowed as Martin deepened the kiss. It was hot, desperate, and filled with a frantic, bottled-up hunger. Martin’s tongue stroked against his, demanding and unyielding, tasting of expensive bourbon and sweet, dangerous sin.
Javed’s hands flew to Martin’s chest, grabbing fistfuls of his white shirt, pulling him closer until there was absolutely no space left between them. The solid, muscular weight of Martin’s body pressed Javed hard against the door, pinning him in place.
Martin groaned, one of his hands sliding down Javed’s neck, his thumb tracing the racing pulse at his throat before slipping lower, mapping the curve of his shoulder, the line of his spine. Every touch felt like a brand, scorching Javed’s skin through his thin t-shirt.
When Martin finally broke the kiss, he didn't pull away. He pressed his forehead against Javed’s, both of them breathing in ragged, uneven gasps.
"This is wrong," Martin growled softly, his voice thick with a dark, heavy lust. "It’s dangerous. If David finds out..."
"He won't," Javed breathed, his lips tingling, his entire body trembling with the aftershocks of the kiss. He reached up, his fingertips brushing the silver-streaked hair at Martin’s temples. "We just have to be careful."
Martin closed his eyes, a muscle feathering in his jaw as he fought for breath. "There are new rules, Javed. If we do this... if we cross this line... it stays behind closed doors. Nobody can know. Especially not my son."
"I agree," Javed murmured, leaning up to press a soft, lingering kiss to the corner of Martin's jaw.
Martin’s hands tightened on Javed’s waist, pulling him flush against his hips, letting Javed feel exactly how much power he held over the older man. "You have no idea what you've started," Martin whispered against his skin. "I don't play games, Javed. Once I claim something, I don't let it go."
A thrill of pure, delicious terror shot through Javed.
Suddenly, the quiet of the night was shattered. Far down the driveway, the bright sweep of headlights cut through the darkness of the study, illuminating the trees outside.
The sound of a car engine purred closer.
Martin froze. His eyes snapped open, the spell instantly breaking.
"David’s back," Martin hissed, his voice instantly dropping back into its cold, authoritative register. He stepped back, instantly stripping away the warmth of his body. He smoothed down his shirt, his face hardening into a mask of pure discipline. "Go. Now. Use the back stairs."
Javed stood there, dazed and breathless, his lips swollen, his heart still hammering. He looked at Martin, who was already walking back to his desk, picking up his whiskey glass as if nothing had happened.
Without a word, Javed slipped out of the side door, his heart in his throat as the front door of the mansion creaked open down the hall.
