Cedric was right to practice safe room drills. The first day was a disaster. No one knew where to go, children were waiting for their parents to find them rather than going to the safe rooms. It was a mess.
The second day was better, but nowhere near the five minutes that Cedric wanted. When the safe room doors were ‘closed’, nearly half the young were still outside the safe rooms. The adults had all helped the children on the first day, but on the second day, Cedric said we needed to let them figure it out, that all of us would be in a battle. Only those who would be in the safe rooms, like Zephyr and Merethyl, could help the young.
It was Kenna who suggested partners, a buddy system where an older child would make sure that a younger one was getting to the correct safe room.
