Veronica’s POV
As we descended the stairs, the air grew thick with the scent of dampness and mold. The darkness seemed to swallow us whole, and I fumbled in my pocket for the small flashlight I had found earlier. The weak beam of light illuminated the narrow corridor, revealing cobwebs and dust coating the walls.
Alejandro's hand tightened around mine, his eyes wide with fear. "Where are we going?" he whispered.
I forced a reassuring smile. "Somewhere safe," I promised. "Just trust me, okay?"
The corridor twisted and turned, leading us deeper into the depths of the mansion. I could feel the weight of Bruno's presence bearing down on us, the sense that we were being watched. My skin crawled, but I pushed on, driven by the need to escape.
