Luca POV By morning, I had decided the rain had made everything worse. The treasure hunt, the candles, the children sleeping around us, and the way Riley had looked at me after I told her the house felt too much better with her in it had created a kind of closeness that could not continue. It had felt natural in the moment, which made it more dangerous. Nothing about us was simple. Riley lived under my roof. She cared for my children. Our parents were married. The media already watched us closely enough to create stories from a photograph or a shared car ride. We had kissed once and nearly kissed again.
