It was nearly dark on Friday evening when I stepped out on the porch to greet my granddaughter, Amanda. My daughter, Amanda's mom, had made arrangements for her to stay with me while she learned the ropes of her new job. Amanda had found a good position with a home and auto insurance company, located less than two miles from my place. The intent was for the girl to also continue her schooling and stay with me until she could accumulate a decent amount in savings and find her own apartment. The insurance company was footing the bill for her classes, but not lodging. Amanda was my first and favorite grandchild, and has been ever since she tagged me with my nickname, 'Pops', when she was three years old. The girl would, literally, run over her own siblings and cousins to reach me with hugs
