Meghan's POV. The night was quiet. Maybe a little too quiet. I closed my eyes and listined, training my ears on every sound, no matter how insicnificent it might have been. I heard the slight rustle of the leaves as the evening breeze whisped through them, the rushing of the water from the river nearby, the singing of the crickets as they jumped from one blade of grass to the other. And then... I heard the snapping of twigs and the crunching of soil. The sound was so subtle that an untrained ear easily would have missed it. But my ears weren't untrained... neither was I. The footsteps were heavy - heavy enough to tell me that they came from a human, but not heavy enough to belong to a man. As they neared, I spun round and lunged forward with my claws bared.
