Elena rushed through the front door of her parents' house, the cab's taillights fading down the street as she tried to catch her breath. She glanced in the hall mirror and cringed. Her hair was a mess from the wind on the bike and Jax's fingers gripping it during their rough goodbye s*x. The sundress was wrinkled, clinging to her skin in sweaty spots, and faint red marks from his mouth and hands peeked just above the collar. She yanked the fabric higher, her heart thumping. If they saw those, it was over. Her mom turned from the stove, spoon in hand, face pinching with worry. "Elena! Thank God. Where have you been? You said you'd be home hours ago. What's going on?" Elena's mind blanked for a second, the lie she'd built crumbling like dry sand. "I... Sarah and I got caught up talking.
