“Abby, are you still there?” Mia asked, concerned.
I nodded, pressing a hand to my forehead. “Yes. I’m still here,” I replied, my voice slightly cracked. “Did you see Liam there?”
“Liam?” she repeated. “No. Is he here?”
I shrugged. “Maybe. I don’t know.”
Then I explained the situation to her.
“Damn, that’s f****d up,” she gasped. “Have you called him? Come up with something else.”
I laughed. “You want me to lie?”
“You’ve already lied, so one more lie won’t hurt,” she replied sharply. “And don’t try to make it seem like I’m the one who’s giving you bad advice.”
“I won’t. I’m sorry.” I pinched the bottom of my nose as I apologized. “So what do you think I should say to him?”
