The clearing was silent under the moon, the silver light reflecting off the lake just beyond the trees. Rafe had disappeared into the shadows, but the unease in the air hadn’t dissipated. That tension shattered the instant the hooded figure stepped fully into the moonlight.
He pulled back the hood slowly. Silver hair glinted beneath the moon, and his eyes, sharp, commanding, and unfamiliar, scanned the pack, the relics, and finally me. My heart stopped.
