Daddy stays at the hospital for three days. I call my boss and tell him the situation and he tells me to take all the time I need and not to worry about the time off. So, I spend every moment I can at the hospital, which is every moment Daddy’s there. Because they know me, they let me stay even though I’m not legally family. Daddy’s burns heal quickly, but the smoke inhalation is what worries them the most. That’s why they keep him for three days. When they release him, they give him strict instructions to take it easy for the next several weeks while his lungs and heart recover from the strain they’ve been placed under. Daddy agrees and I tell him, “Don’t worry, Daddy. I’ll take care of you.” He smiles at me and says, “With a beautiful nurse like you, I might never recover.” I giggle
