Alice looked up at the imposing building with more than a little trepidation. How had it come to this? She wanted to go back, but she knew that she couldn’t. Not now, maybe not ever. It had all gone so wrong so that now she had no option but to get out of the carriage and head to the building in front of her.
It was a tall building made of dark stone. The windows all looked back at her, dark and empty, somehow full of foreboding.
The sky above managed to fill her with a similar sense of dread. The clouds had been closing in all day as the carriage had made its way along bumpy roads and now the dark clouds had settled in completely. It was as gloomy as she felt.
