I sprinted to the monitor before Beau finished cursing at the door that had slammed shut behind us. The dim light washed over my hands as I pressed both palms flat against the screen. The heartbeat reacted instantly. It surged, spiking up the display in a sharp trembling line. The monitor beeped faster, the sound thin and unstable. “Jack,” I whispered. “Come on. Feel me.
