Chapter 8 Wildfire Border & The Renouncing

(POV) Amethyst I waited only long enough for my parents' scents to fade into the familiar smells of our home, then I was gone. Shifting wasn't an option near the Beta house; it would be too loud, too noticeable. I ran on two legs until I reached the deepest part of the wooded trail, the one that ran parallel to the creek, just as Dad had instructed. As soon as the noise of the neighborhood was swallowed by the dense forest, I shed my clothes—a familiar ritual that felt profoundly different tonight. There was no bond waiting, no mate to return to. There was only Sable, a furious, powerful white blur of muscle that erupted from me, larger and more desperate than she had ever been. As soon as we got to the border of the Wildfire Pack. I stood at the border for a few minutes, taking in the beautiful sight that I loved for all I can remember. The pack didn't treat me like a person, but I loved the beauty of my pack and I loved parents. Well, here we go, I spoke the words I never thought I would say. I, Amethyst Walker, daughter of the Beta's Jessie & Gemma Walker, reject you, Alpha Alaric Conrad, as my Alpha. I also renounce my place in the Wildfire Pack. All of a sudden, I feel a sharp pain in my heart and body as the bond breaks. And then I hear the howls of the Wildfire Pack warriors. I knew then that Alpha Alaric and my family knew I was at the border and broke the bond. I hated knowing the pain I put on my parents, because the bond with them hurt the most. I shifted, and let Sable have full control. I needed to put as much distance as I could between us and the warriors. I trained every day with the warriors, so I knew their technical skills. I knew where their strength was the strongest. I also knew the warriors of Wildfire are just that, wild & fiery. They weren't honest in fighting. Wildfire warriors didn't care who you were. They would hurt you in any way they wanted to. If Alpha Alaric ordered me to be killed on site, they wouldn't hesitate to do it, innocent or not. Would I fight? Yes, but Sable and I haven't done any training in our wolf form. Yes, we are bigger than the Alpha, but without the training we need together, it could be disastrous. Sable took off and we ran. We didn't just run—we flew. Sable's massive paws tore through the damp earth, barely pausing to find traction. The fear of knowing we could be killed fueled us, lending us a speed I didn't know Sable possessed. We needed that distance between us and the warriors. The Diamond Moon pack was 5 packs over in Black Mountains, North Carolina. A lifetime away in human terms, but for a wolf with a target on her back, it was only a few grueling days. I kept the burner phone in a waterproof pouch tied around Sable's neck, the GPS constantly tracking our trajectory. I knew the journey was going to be exhausting. We didn't sleep much, we didn't want to stop for fear Wildfire Pack warriors would catch up with us. After 2 days of running non-stop, Sable was so worn out she needed a break. We searched by the river and found a cave. When we searched the cave and found it to be safe, Sable gave me control so I could shift back to my human body. I got my backpack but on a simple dress. I was so hungry and tired. I found some wood and lit a small fire. I pulled out some of the food mom packed for me and began eating. I knew it wasn't anything big and fancy. Wow, I sure do miss mom's cooking. Mom sure knew what to pack to keep my energy up. I took some of the beef jerky out, mom even made some of my favorite trail mix. As I sat by the fire eating, I wondered if my parents were okay. Yes, I was worried what Alpha Alaric would do to my parents. He was a greedy man and even though he and dad grew up together and were close, that doesn't mean Alaric wouldn't hurt his own Betas to get to me. After I finished eating, I laid down by the fire to get some rest. Sleep didn't come easy. I dreamed of the past few days and everything that transpired. I also dreamed of meeting Selene, The Moon Goddess. I watched myself fall asleep with her sitting next to me. She was watching over me while I slept. For the first time in days, I felt safe. I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. I asked Sable how she was feeling. Through a drowsy voice, she told me she was feeling so much better. Then Sable asked me if I dreamed of the Moon Goddess sitting and watching over us as we slept. That's weird Sable. I did dream of the Moon Goddess watching over us as we slept. I reached in the bag and got some more jerky and trail mix to eat. After eating, I pulled my dress off and shifted back into Sable. We knew we couldn't be too far from Diamond Moon Pack. Sable fixed the backpack and phone around her. Yes, we discovered that Sable could put our backpack around her back. Neat huh! We knew we were special, but we didn't know how special, but we were going to learn more about ourselves as time went on. But our first mission was getting to our destination. We were going to do everything we could to make it to Diamond Moon territory. But little did we know there was even more danger ahead of us. Danger. We didn't realize what it could be, but we were soon to find out.
