I narrowed my eyes, studying her with razor focus.
"What condition?"
"Help my brother Adrian fight against Father and Mother. Protect Lina and her baby. Is that okay?"
I froze.
This girl—
"Um, did I ask for too much? You could just pick one! The end goal is the same anyway!"
I stood abruptly and crossed the space between us.
My wolf Orion stirred, intrigued by her scent—vanilla and honey, sweet but with an underlying note of fear.
She immediately stepped back, stammering. "I'm scared Mother will commit crimes. Scared Father will make mistakes. If they just live peacefully in their later years, wouldn't that be better?"
"I don't want Father to pay the price for Mother's ambitions."
"And I don't want Mother to be cornered in the end either."
