The next morning, I was jolted awake by Mandy's frantic phone calls.
"Lina! Have you seen the news I sent you? That mysterious girl in the photos—I'm pretty sure that's your stepdaughter!
If it really is her, you need to call James right now! Don't let some stranger whisk her away!"
I rubbed my eyes groggily, still half-asleep.
Looking around, I noticed Adrian's side of the bed was already empty, the sheets neatly made. His pine and musk scent still lingered faintly in the air, the only proof he'd been there at all.
I blinked, trying to focus. "Wait, are you talking about Chloe?"
"Just look at the news first!"
