I had the day off. Finally.
Mara texted me asking if I wanted to go shopping. I said yes immediately.
I needed a break from the hospital. From work. From everything.
We met at the mall around noon.
"You look tired," Mara said when she saw me.
"I am. But I'm glad to be out of the house."
"How are things with Kieran?"
"Good. Really good actually."
She smiled. "I'm happy for you."
We walked into the first store. A home goods place with kitchen stuff and decorations.
"What are you looking for?" Mara asked.
"A housewarming gift for my parents."
I walked through the aisles. Found a nice picture frame and a set of candles Mom would like.
"I should get something for Kieran too," I said.
I picked up a leather wallet. Put it back. Too much.
