I did not sleep at all. I sat by my window and watched the sun come up. My bag was packed and hidden under my bed. I was ready to run. I was ready to leave the only home I ever knew because the pain was too much to carry.
But early in the morning, there was a knock on my door. It was not my mother. It was a tall guard with a serious face.
"Kaira," he said. "The Alpha wants to see you in his private room. Now."
