CHAPTER SIX : The Test
Kaira’s pov
The summons came before noon. A young guard appeared at my door ,avoiding my eyes. “The elders request your presence in the inner hall. ”
My stomach dropped.
“Why?” I asked.
He hesitated. “Evaluation. ”
The word made my hands go cold. Late shifters were always evaluated. Most failed quietly and were sent away. Some didn’t survive at all.
I followed him through the halls ,my footsteps echoing too loudly in the silence. Wolves gathered along the walls as we passed. No one spoke to me. No one offered support.
At the entrance to the inner hall ,Alpha Laim stood with the elders. He did not look at me . That hurt more.
“Bring her forward ,” Elder Kingsely said.
I stepped into the center of the hall. The ceiling stood high above ,stone carved
