Maya's Pov
10 Years Later
"Please, Alpha. I have a family" he whimpered, holding his hands up.
I didn't feel a single thing. No pity, no regret, no conscience. I slowly walked over, stepped on his neck until his bone snapped, and didn't even blink as he screamed in pain.
"Clean this mess up," I said coldly to the guard standing near the door. "Hang his body on the border fence for everyone to see."
I didn't care about his family. I didn't care about his tears. Mercy was for the weak, and I buried weakness ten years ago.
Terence, my Beta, stepped into the room as the guards dragged the body out.
"Alpha, there was another attack" Terence said, stepping over the blood on the floor.
"Was anyone hurt?" I asked, sitting down at my desk.
Terence shook his head. "No."
"They're getting even more bolder and dangerous," I said.
Over the last few years that I've been the Alpha of this pack, I've made sure to keep my people safe. I built the biggest and strongest walls around our territory. I trained the smartest, toughest, and most undefeated warriors the world has ever seen, and we've been in a league of our own for years.
I arrived in this pack broken bruised bleeding and completely destroyed but I didn't make that my identity.
My uncle had chose me to take over as Alpha because he had no children of his own, and he watched me spend years training until my body bled, turning myself into a lethal weapon and earning the respect of every single warrior in the pack so he made me his heir.
But now, the hybrids are getting stronger, more brazen, and far more dangerous. Unfortunately, their physical abilities have give them an advantage over us.
In order to fight just one hybrid, you need about three of our best werewolves, and it's a huge disadvantage if they attack at once when there are many of them.
"I know you don't want to hear this, Alpha," Terence said, "but we need the Alpha King's support. In order to have that, you have to go to that meeting."
Before I could answer, my office door swung open.
My uncle walked right into the room without knocking. It's a good thing it's my uncle, because he is one of the very few people that I actually respect. If it wasn't him, I wouldn't appreciate someone just entering my office without permission.
"On a good day, I would disagree and tell you that we don't need anybody," I said, looking back at Terence. "But you might be right."
We went from being the smallest pack to being a force to be reckoned with, but we don't make allies with just anybody. The few packs that I did ally with were carefully chosen packs who have no connection to the Solstice Pack.
There are a few packs that aren't associated with them because those packs also grew stronger on their own.
"Terrence, can you excuse us, please?" my uncle asked.
Terrence nodded and left the room, closing the door behind him so the both of us could talk privately.
"I could go to the summit instead" my uncle said, stepping closer to my desk. "I'm the former Alpha. I don't think you going there is a good idea. It could cause too much of a problem."
I gave him a tight, cold smile. "Unfortunately, the Alpha King is not going to like that.
And we need his help at the moment, so a stand-in won't work."
My uncle looked at me with concern in his eyes. "You don't have to hide your emotions from me, Maya. I know what's going through your head, and I just want to protect you."
I smiled, even though it wasn't funny.
"I don't need protection," I said, my voice dropping to a freezing, dangerous tone.
"They need protection from me. So you don't have to worry about me. Instead, worry about them."
I stood up slowly from my chair, staring ahead with pure ice in my soul.
"All this has done is just fast-forward my plans in destroying them. And you know I don't like attacking from the back. So I want them to know that I'm back, and I want them to feel my attack. I will ruin everything they hold dear. I'll destroy them just like they destroyed us. And when I'm done, they'll beg just like I did and even then, I won't show them any mercy."
" I admit I always thought that maybe in a few years you would forget everything that happened and start a new life but I was wrong." he said and I always knew he felt like that but forgiving and forgetting is something that is easier said than done.
" I wish I could forget too." I said looking out of the window.
" I wish I don't wake up drenched in sweat every night fearing for my brother and asking myself if he is out there or not.
I wish the memory of my Unborn child doesn't haunt me.
and most importantly I wish my parents were alive but none of my wishes will ever be fulfilled so you should keep on wishing as well uncle because that will never happen." I said and he sighed.
"You already have everything, what could you possibly want because this revenge, it won't make everything better it won't heal you but it will take so much from you." he said and I gave him a dry laugh.
" will I ever have children again. Will anyone ever want to be stuck with a barren woman. Will I get my parents back. Will I get my brother back." I asked him because the topic was getting way too stupid.
"And don't bother answering that because I won't and I appreciate your concern and your love but I'm never going to stop until I destroy Ezra. You're either going to stand by me or you're going to watch me do it because it's going to happen. "
