Kael’s footsteps paused.
A moment later, his voice traveled back down the corridor.
“I love you too.”
Drake closed the door wearing the triumphant expression of someone who had just won a battle no one else realized was taking place.
I stared at him.
He turned toward me. “What?”
“So.”
His eyes narrowed. “No.”
“You don’t even know what I’m going to ask.”
“I know exactly what you’re going to ask.”
“You came into my bedroom uninvited twice in less than twenty-four hours. There are consequences.”
“I brought food both times.”
“That reduces your sentence. It does not erase it.”
Drake walked back toward the bed and dropped into the chair beside me. “You are supposed to be resting, not interrogating your caretaker.”
