By the time we finally made it back to our room, the castle had quieted considerably.
The chaos of dinner, the prophecy, the journals, Drake attaching himself to Kael like an emotionally persistent barnacle… all of it felt strangely distant behind the heavy bedroom doors.
For the first time all night, it was just us again.
Thoren loosened the collar of his shirt as he crossed the room slowly, his eyes never fully leaving me.
There was still heaviness in him. I could feel it through the bond. But now it mixed with need.
“You know,” he said casually while setting the journal onto the dresser, “we were interrupted earlier.”
I blinked innocently while slipping off my shoes. “Were we?”
His mouth twitched slightly.
“In the library.”
“Oh.” I pretended to think about it. “That.”
