The hallway echoed with laughter long after they disappeared. Nevara’s bright voice floated around the corner first. Then Drake’s. Then both of them together.
Somewhere farther down the corridor, I heard Drake say something I couldn’t quite make out, followed immediately by Nevara laughing hard enough that it echoed all the way back to us.
I smiled despite myself.
“They found each other awfully fast.”
Kael folded his arms beside me, his eyes lingering on the empty hallway where our mates had vanished.
“They did.”
“They’re going to be trouble.”
“They already are.”
He let out a quiet breath that almost sounded like a laugh.
“They’ve known each other for less than an hour. That first dinner hardly counted. He disappeared onto the patio with me.”
