“They followed me here.”
The girl’s fingers dug into my arm so hard they hurt.
Behind her, another howl rose through the trees.
Closer.
Easton was already moving, one hand reaching for the radio clipped to his belt while Gavin pushed so strongly against the mate bond that I could practically feel his fur standing on end.
I grabbed Easton’s wrist.
“Wait.”
His eyes snapped to mine.
“They’re hunting her.”
“I know.”
“No.” I shook my head. “They’re tracking what they think she is.”
The girl stared between us, terrified.
She couldn’t have been more than sixteen.
Maybe seventeen.
Blood streaked one side of her face, and her bare feet were torn badly enough that I could see where rocks had cut through the skin.
“What can you become?” I asked.
Her lips trembled.
“Anything.
