Flashback

Misty After the bath, Hal and Gray dried me off. Then, when we stepped into the room there was a cart with three steaming bowls of stew, some sourdough bread and herbed butter. We ate in silence. I kept my eyes on the stew, but I could feel Hal and Gray’s eyes on me. The stew was rich and comforting. I dipped my bread in it and ate every last bite, which surprised me. I didn’t think I could eat before we got in the tub, but when I smelled the stew I was ravenous. Once we were done, Gray asked if I wanted to lay down in bed for our conversation or did I want us to sit on the balcony. I opted for the balcony. We were all in robes and, with the sun going down, it would be perfect for the conversation we were about to have. Hal took me outside, and he leaned back on the chaise chair.
