MARIA POV
The small bathroom was warm and humid, steam curling up from the tub as Dax adjusted the water temperature. He turned toward us, his eyes scanning me from head to toe, his jaw tightening slightly before his expression softened.
Henry carried me to the edge of the tub, setting me down gently as Dax helped me step in. The warm water enveloped me like a hug, soothing muscles I hadn’t realized were sore.
They didn’t leave. Dax pulled up a stool to sit beside the tub, his hand occasionally brushing over mine as he watched me with those steady, protective eyes. Henry perched on the edge, his fingers skimming the surface of the water as though reluctant to let go entirely.
