Aurora’s POV When morning finally came, the storm was gone, but my nightmare was only starting. Gray light peeked through the broken wooden window. The wind had stopped, but the bedroom was freezing cold. Broken glass from the shattered light bulb covered the floor, mixed with water and dried blood. I sat against the headboard, feeling sore in places I did not even know existed. My whole body shook with exhaustion, but I held my two babies tight against my chest. On my left side, Maya slept like any sweet newborn girl. Her tiny chest rose and fell softly, and her cheeks were warm and pink. She had fed quietly and drifted straight off to sleep. On my right side lay Leo. He had not closed his eyes once. Wrapped in an old blanket, my son was staring straight up at the wooden ceiling.
