Aurora’s POV
The next morning came far too fast.
When the light of dawn came through our dirty window, I was already wide awake. I did not sleep well at all. Every time I closed my eyes, my mind kept spinning. I thought about losing my job, running out of money, and not having enough food for my children.
I moved as quietly as I could so I would not wake the twins. The old wooden floorboards squeaked under my feet, making me freeze every few steps. I turned on the small burner and filled our little pot with water. I boiled a handful of oats to make warm food for their breakfast.
