Cam stepped back, already moving on to the next thing. Pierce wasn’t running, which made him harder to protect and easier to hit. Men like that didn’t scare easy, but they also didn’t see everything coming.
My phone vibrated in my hand. I looked at the screen and answered without stepping away. Kane didn’t waste time either.
“Prez. Palmer still inside.”
“Anyone come near the house?” I asked.
“No.”
“Any movement at all?”
“Nothing.”
“Stay on him.”
“You want me to shift?”
“No.”
He paused for a second on the line.
“You think something else is moving?” he asked.
“I know it is.”
“Then we’re watching the wrong man.”
“We’re watching one part of it.”

“Stay where you are,” I said. “If Palmer moves, I want it first.”
