I called Crane from the hallway outside church.
He picked up on the second ring.
"Noah."
"We found something in the records you handed over," I said. "Reyes. He's been inside your network for six months. Financial records, communication access, meeting schedules. Everything you knew, Vega knew."
Crane said nothing for a long moment.
This silence was different from anything I'd heard from him in our one meeting. He was controlled as a rule but this landed somewhere that control didn't immediately reach.
"Say that again," he said.
"Reyes. Vega's ground operator. He's been sitting inside your network since before you approached us. Before the alliance. Before any of it."
Another silence.
"How did you find this?" he said finally.
"It was in the records you gave us," I said. "
