"What kind of message?" I ask but I already know it's nothing good.
Luca reaches into his bag and what he pulls out makes me see red.
It's a bracelet, one that I know all too well.
And it's covered in blood.
"No." The word comes out as a whisper. My hands shake as I reach for it, recognizing it immediately. "No, this can't…" I am practically shaking now.
"What's that?” Aaron asks, concerned.
"I gave this to Mia on her eighteenth birthday." My voice sounds distant, hollow. "She never takes it off."
The world suddenly seems to tilt sideways.
Why would Mia's bracelet appear here, covered in blood?
Weren't they supposed to get Dr. Chen and return safely?
"There's more," Uncle Luca says quietly, pulling out a folded piece of paper.
"It's a message for you." He reveals.
