I had to make sure that Akira had calmed down before taking her upstairs to meet Lily. I knew that if I didn’t talk to them about it immediately, Akira would end up telling her sister by herself.
I asked my mother to follow me upstairs for emotional support. I knew I couldn’t talk to them on my own. I could already picture all the judgmental and disappointed stares I would receive from them.
As we got to the room, Akira went over to where Lily was lying down. “Mama has something to tell us.” She whispered in her ear but everyone could hear.
Lily’s face lit up in excitement. “Are we going on a trip?” She asked, her eyes darting between me and Hana.
I wish it was something as simple as that.
I shook my head. “No, it’s something more serious.”
