Chapter One Hundred Ten: The Morning The Filing Goes In

1399 Words

The filing went in at seven am on a Thursday. Adisa sent the confirmation to Nara's phone at seven-oh-three — a single line: *Filed. Noted the fair hearing. Both records stand.* Then nothing else, because Adisa communicated in exactly the necessary amount and considered anything further a waste of everyone's time. Nara read it at the kitchen window with her first coffee. The city outside was doing its early-morning thing — the specific grey-gold quality of a Kaelthorn morning before the glass towers caught enough light to perform their usual magnificence. The bridge was visible from this angle if she stood at the right edge of the window. Both sides. Both halves beginning their day. *Done,* Solène said. *That one, yes.* *How many more?* Nara held her coffee. *As many as there are.*
