Not announced — she had written to say she was coming and had given a date, and the date was today, and when I came through the Hold's gate in the late afternoon she was already there.

Not performing anything. Just — looking. The way you looked at a place you had left and were seeing again for the first time after a long time. Reading it. Checking what had changed and what hadn't.
She heard me come through the gate.
She turned.
We looked at each other.
"The east wing is repaired," she said.
"Three weeks ago," I said. "The structural review found two other sections that needed work. Zevran had it all done at once."
She looked at the east wing.
"He's thorough," she said.
"Yes," I said. "He is."
