"Sure." As soon as I said it, I knew it was the wrong thing to say. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Val shoot a look in my direction; and it wasn't a very nice look.
We talked for another 30 minutes or so; well, mostly David and I talked. Val was uncharacteristically quiet. Later I was walking her to her cabin and she spoke. "Are you really taking her with you tomorrow?"
