Mary Ann’s POV The first thing I noticed when I woke was the ring. It rested on the bedside table beside my hand, silver catching the pale morning light. The joined symbols of Mooncrest and Ironclaw faced upward, exactly as they had on the day Modric placed it on my finger before two packs. For several seconds, I stared at it. There was no note. No explanation. Nothing to show why Modric had entered my room while I slept or why he had returned the ring after leaving with it in his pocket. I sat up slowly.
