“This was never a response to your refusal.”
I placed the altered challenge document beside the older council records.
“Gregor secretly changed the rules two days before announcing them.”
Silence settled over the strategy room.
Modric stood on the opposite side of the table, his uninjured hand braced against the wood. Anger moved through the mate bond with enough force to make my wolf restless. Kylian leaned closer to the documents, reading each line again as though he hoped the dates would rearrange themselves.
They did not.
The old challenge law contained one final test of combat and allowed the council to request additional leadership reviews only after a challenger had been officially presented.
Gregor’s amended version was different.
It divided the challenge in
