Mary Ann’s POV The blade disappeared into Modric’s back. For one horrible second, he remained standing. His body blocked mine completely, one arm still stretched behind him as though he could keep me away from Cassius even after the weapon had entered his flesh. Then the bond tore open. Pain crashed through me. Cold metal. Burning silver. A violent pressure beneath his ribs. I gasped and grabbed Modric as his knees gave way. “Modric!” His weight dragged us both toward the floor.
