Modric’s POV Velvera survived the night. Elara removed the arrow after nearly three hours of treatment. The wound had missed her heart, but the blade had torn through muscle and carried a weak poison designed to slow healing. It was not the same poison used on me. Whoever fired the arrow wanted her silenced quickly, but they had not expected Mary Ann to pull her behind the altar before the second shot landed. Velvera woke the following afternoon. By then, she had been moved from the infirmary into one of the guarded recovery cells beneath the western wing.
