Modric I woke with Mary Ann’s name on my lips. The infirmary ceiling came into focus slowly. Pale stone. Low-burning lamps. Heavy curtains hiding the morning light. Pain followed a second later. It tore through my shoulder when I tried to sit up. A hand forced me back against the pillows. “Do that again and Elara will tie you to the bed.” Kylian stood beside me. Mud stained the lower half of his clothes, and a healing cut crossed his cheek. He looked as though he had not rested since the memorial.
